DTI ( legal process outsourcing company) will be acquiring Merrill Corporation’s eDiscovery, Deposition and Court Reporting and Facilities Management Services with the expected completion of the sale in the 2nd quarter of this year.
What does this mean for the law firms with which they are engaged?
A broadcloth answer could reflect this as great news. The acquisition of Merrill Facilities Management Services greatly expands the ability of DTI to support clients on a global basis with added legal service operations in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Hong Kong, Singapore, New Zealand and Australia and expands their service offerings. For Merrill’s current customers they will have access to DTI’s robust litigation support and eDiscovery operation as well as their middle-office outsourcing solutions.
The devil –as with any acquisition–is of course, in the details. It will be interesting to see how Merrill’s current clients become “DTI-zed” as DTI assumes operational control over their facilities and the labor force is integrated.
Our recommendation to our clients is to stand steady and wait and see; however, all change brings questions—specific ones regarding individual situations.
