GLEN MILLS, Pa. – December 6, 2010 – Legal support services consulting firm Mattern & Associates, LLC (matternassoc.com) today announced it has successfully completed a support service evaluation, RFP process and contract negotiation for the law firm of McCarter & English (www.mccarter.com). Because of Mattern’s work on its behalf, McCarter & English will reduce its support services costs by 23 percent in the initial year of the new contract and 14 percent in subsequent years without reducing services or switching providers.
Mattern applied its three-phase Mattern Method® approach to assess McCarter & English’s costs, utilization of labor, equipment, supplies and services against industry benchmarks and best practices. Mattern negotiated a new contract with the firm’s incumbent vendor to reduce labor and equipment costs and allow greater flexibility over the firm’s equipment. The firm also implemented Mattern Plan B Cost Recovery™ – patent pending- that allows McCarter & English to pass litigation support project invoices directly through to its clients to recover more of their costs.
“The single greatest benefit that Mattern & Associates brought to the table was their in-depth industry knowledge,” says John Brefach, Chief Operating Officer of McCarter & English. “They were familiar with all the vendors in the litigation support arena and the services each provided. This was very helpful in making sure the right vendors were considered in the RFP process.”
“This engagement was so successful because we had McCarter’s full cooperation at every stage of the process,” says Rob Mattern, President of Mattern & Associates. “It is also another example of the results that can be achieved when you strategically position the support services based upon the firm’s cost recovery policy.”
