Chadds Ford, PA – May 1, 2018 – Legal support services consulting firm Mattern, LLC announces the company will lead two educational sessions and a rapid-fire BOLD Bite at the 2018 ALA Annual Conference and Expo in National Harbor, MD on Saturday, May 5th. Parallel, Mattern’s Consultant, Ben Schmidt will lead “Outsourcing the Back and Middle Office:  Is it the Right Long-Term Strategy for your Firm’s Profitability?” at 1:15 pm.

The Association of Legal Administrators (ALA) Annual Conference is the industry’s premier event focusing on the business of law.  The four-day event brings thought leaders from across the country to deliver top-tier educational opportunities for attendees, spanning a comprehensive range of challenges law firms face in restructuring operations to meet the new demands of the legal market. Mattern has been a long time supporter of ALA.

On May 5th at 8:30 am in session room National Harbor 3, Stephen Cole will present “Maximizing Your Service Providers Contracts for Savings and Efficiencies” discussing:

  • The pros and cons of consolidating contracts, how to approach the strategy of this process and how to structure the request for proposal (RFP)
  • A list of the critical contract terms, performance standards and score-carding that will make the process work

At 1:15 pm in session room Chesapeake 8-9, Stephen will head a 15-minute BOLD Bite session “5 Steps to Substantially Improve Governance Over Your Records,” addressing a foundational tactics that move a firm towards going fully digital to help improve information governance, eliminate firms’ off-site records storage cost burdens and further reduce risk exposure.

Concurrently, Ben Schmidt will be presenting “Outsourcing the Back and Middle Office:  Is it the Right Long-Term Strategy for your Firm’s Profitability?” at 1:15 pm in session room National Harbor 2, addressing:

  • How to take traditional areas of outsourcing (reprographics, mail, etc.) and make them more cost-effective and efficient with added benefits to the firm
  • Identify new areas, including document processing, records, litigation support and administrative resources, that should be considered for outsourcing
  • Discuss how the recovery of costs is a key factor in this process and the one area that most firms tend to leave money on the table

Stephen Cole says, “We are honored to be selected to once again participate in the 2018 ALA Annual Conference & Expo.  The legal market continues to transform and firms must be quick to adapt. We see a prominent growth in M&A’s, from which firms can gain tremendous efficiencies by centralizing functions and consolidating their services contracts. Similarly, another hot topic is information governance. Going fully digital improves a firms information governance and reduces off-site records storage costs.  I look forward to providing valuable information and guidance on these topics.”

Ben Schmidt remarks “Outsourcing is no longer an overlooked strategy. Firms are increasingly recognizing outsourcing as an effective method to help reduce operational costs, improve efficiency and expand expertise. But every firm’s current situation is different and deciding if outsourcing is the correct strategy to improve back and middle office functions can be daunting if you do not have the proper understanding. I am happy to provide the necessary data and insights.”
