2023 Mattern Matters Winter Newsletter Editorial

2023 Mattern Matters Winter Newsletter Editorial 2023-12-21T15:31:37+00:00

Hello, my name is Rob Mattern and I am the President of Mattern.  Welcome to the winter edition of our newsletter, Mattern Matters.

In this edition of Mattern Matters, we are going to cover everything from our one-of-a-kind IG survey, to a quick overview of the Thomson Reuters 22nd Annual Law Firm COO & CFO Forum that took place earlier this month in Washington.  Also included, we have an insightful case study detailing a recent offsite records success, in addition to another new case study illustrating the importance of Information Governance.

Saving the best for last, this issue marks our heartfelt goodbyes to one of our consultants who has been with Mattern for almost two decades, Ed Warren, as well as welcoming one of our new hires.

Ed Warren – Riding off into the sunset

Ed Warren, our longest-tenured consultant at Mattern, will be retiring at the end of January.  Ed has been with Mattern since June of 2007, has worked in every phase of our practices, developed many close client relationships over the years and brought value to everything he touched.  Ed, we wish you the best of luck in retirement and may it be a long, healthy one.

Coming Soon:  The Mattern 2023 Information Governance Survey Results

As I write this editorial, we are putting the final polish on the 2023 Mattern Information Governance Survey report which, at last count, has over 50 law firm respondents. If your firm participated, the summary will be coming to you soon. If you didn’t, upon request, there’s still time to participate and contribute your firm’s data to the results.  Please see the accompanying preview article in this edition of the newsletter.

Phelps Dunbar offsite situation – worth the wait

If there was an award for the longest offsite RFP we ever ran – this would be it.  Mattern consultants started this project with Phelps Dunbar pre-pandemic, and we finally wrapped it up this year.

The RFP process helped the firm put a stop to some pretty unrealistic rate increases from their vendor and yielded annual allotment of destruction, capped annual increases and the consolidation from five service providers to one with all transfer fees covered by the receiving supplier plus the firm realized savings.  Great project with a great firm.

Another firm taking the 1st step

Also in this issue, we highlight a firm that recognized the need to get moving on their Information Governance initiative and hired Mattern to lead the way.

Welcome to Deanna Crawford

Finally, I want to welcome Deanna Crawford to the Mattern Team.  She will be assuming Ed Warren’s responsibilities plus expanding the role.  Deanna comes to us with a  background at both Iron Mountain and Access.

I hope you enjoy this edition of Mattern Matters and you have a great holiday season.

May 2024 bring you a wealth of success, great health, and many happy memories.

Until next time,
President Rob Mattern
